The Seattle Education Association--It's role for Substitute Educators
Up one levelUnion dues pay for advice and help when having on-job trouble. Ben Ibale is the Substitute educator's union representative.
ON-JOB TROUBLE? CONTRACT QUESTIONS? Ben Ibale is on staff for substitute educator concerns at SEA, 252-8443x206, biblale@washingtonea.org. Ask re any complaint if there is a chance there could be disciplinary action taken. Any “Unsatisfactory” write-up via an Evaluation form lodges in your Personnel file and is difficult to remove. You are entitled by contract to contact/conference with the administrator/Evaluator within 10 days, BEFORE the evaluation is sent to Personnel or before you are barred from a building, another option. In any case involving possibility of disciplinary action, you are advised to know the rules and get advice. Do not assume that you are better off talking to an upset administrator by yourself, in order to “not make a big thing about it”. Your union dues pay for the advice of union staff, normally Ben Ibale who ismost familiar with substitute issues. Ben is able to contact the administrator for you and to accompany you if a meeting is advisable or necessary.
